Winter Wall Decor Project
Gray skies, snow flurries, packed away Christmas decorations and unstrung lights? It must be January! While we might be a few weeks removed from the festive holiday season, it doesn’t mean winter has to be boring.
Winter has packed us in and strapped us up tight. We’re on this trip for the next few months before a great thaw taps in and taps back out in October.
Those gray skies can get old after awhile, but winter is actually quite beautiful! Those in states that avoid the threats of being snowed in and who don’t have to fret the snow chunk that’s flung into your boot and is saturating your sock are lucky in that regard. But I hope we can all appreciate the beauty of fresh snow, even if it is laying siege on your driveway.
I have a bit of a decorating series running on this blog. If you’re not familiar, I like to make a wall decoration for my living room for every season. Here is a look at my summer project, and my fall project.
As you’ve probably guessed, I made a winter project too!
First things first, here are all the materials I used to create the piece. I shopped at Michaels just after the New Year, and all of their leftover Christmas decor (a little picked over) was on sale at 70% off. I was able to snag 10 items and saved $42.63.

Again, like with my previous two projects, I used floral wire to adhere the stems to the curtain rods. I already had the wire ready to use in my arsenal.
And finally, I did pick up three of the same curtain rods I used in my last two projects from Walmart.
Three Curtain Rods
Price Per Rod: $5.98
Total for Three+Tax: $19.02
The process was just as it was with my last two projects. I tied the rods together using straw twine and then adhered the stems to the rods with the floral wire. It took some planning, removing and re-adhereing, but I ended up liking the configuration.
The toughest part was probably adhering the stems to the vertical rods, only because I had to adhere while it was mounted to the wall. Trying to wrap the wire tight enough so it would stay was a bit tricky, but it only took a few minutes to wire them tight.
One little tip that I learned this go around was to mark the rods where they should extend to. The width of the rods is important to match up with the mounts. I marked my rods, and even though they moved slightly on me, it was a good-enough guideline that the project didn’t end up shorter than the mounts. It’s no fun when everything is wired to the rods and you realize it needs to be expanded and more space needs to be accounted for or the wiring is preventing the rods from extending.
Here’s the finished product! What do you think?
I loved working on this project! January and the winter months can be a challenging decorating season. It’s kind of a blah in-between time when the holiday decor is put away and it’s too early to unpack the spring stuff. This project captures the reality of winter while standing independent of Christmas scenery.
Winter doesn’t mean we have to be starved of home decorations. I usually don’t have anything to display this time of year either (aside from the occasional snowman), but this snowy project scene is suitable for the season, and I love it! It’s a pretty wintery addition to my home.
Total Project cost: $38.42
How do you like to decorate during winter? Do you bring your spring florals out right away, keep Christmas in view for awhile, or live minimally until March? Let me know in the comments!
Cheers!
