Red Themed Christmas Decor Ideas + Tips
Don’t you just love decorating for Christmas and the holiday season? There’s nothing cozier than snuggling up in blankets, sipping hot drinks, watching a Christmas movie, and the only lights illuminating the room are those wrapped around your tree.
I’ve decked the halls of my home in a red theme this year. So welcome, come on in, and check out some of my design ideas and tips on how to create a festive red-themed space this holiday season.
Stockings
Stockings perform just as they do on your feet: if they’re done right, they compliment the whole home. I wanted to go with that ski sweater print, so after looking long and hard, and being incredibly picky, I found these two.
Quick tip: If you don’t have a fireplace to display your cute stockings, you can attach them to your entertainment center using ribbon, or in my case, I used floral wire.
Lack of Decor?
Is your decor style minimal, or do you have a shelf that needs some decor love but you’ve used all your resources and you don’t want to spend the money for something new? You can get away with less by using what you already have.
Quick Tip: Use leftover ornaments that can’t find their place on the tree throughout your home if you don’t have a huge decor inventory. Sprinkle them around and it will tie into the rest of your Christmas vibe.
Creating Cohesiveness
If you have an open concept living/dining/kitchen space like me, you probably covered all those bases with decor. Do you have other rooms you like to decorate, or do you like to differentiate between shared-spaced rooms by changing styles? My dining room is just a few feet from my living room, but I like to have a different colored table setting that doesn’t necessarily match the rest of the house. But to melt everything together, I like to apply this next quick tip.
Quick Tip: Tie different decor themes from others rooms of your home with simple corresponding color pops.
You’ll notice within the greenery and painted on the sconces are red berries. They draw out the red from the rest of my decor and tie everything together.
An Advent Calendar
I love the one I bought on Black Friday several years ago at Meijer. Find one that matches your color theme and it becomes an instant additional design element.
Blankets
I talked about the importance of blankets and pillows in my Fall decorating tips post. My husband and I don’t spend even one lounging evening without blankets; they’re that important to us, even in warmer months.
Quick Tip: Find blankets that compliment your color theme, but don’t be afraid to use variations of the same color.
The Tree
Perhaps the most important Christmas design piece is the tree. To me, every other decor item in my living space stems from the theme of my tree. Personally, this year, I’ve used all types and finishes of red, white, and silver ornaments, white lights, and a few special-to-us ornaments that don’t fit the color spectrum but fit the overall look of the tree.
I love decorating for the holiday season, especially for Christmas! Tell me about your theme this year. Are you sticking to a specific color? How do you like to decorate this time of year?
Thanks for stopping by, and Merry Christmas!
Cheers!
