15 Cheap Fall Activities
We’re two feet dipped into Fall now. Yesterday may have been 78 degrees here in Michigan, but today we’re hovering below 50 and it’s here to stay (for now). Pardon me while I say this again, but I love Fall. Everything about it. The colors, the cozy feelings of home, the anticipation of the coming holidays and time with family. It’s just a fun season to do fun stuff. And if you’re worried about breaking the bank while participating in the fall attractions, don’t sweat it. There’s a lot you can do during the fall that won’t take all of your monthly budget.
Today I’m sharing some cheap fall activity ideas that you can enjoy during this short window of pumpkins and leaves.
Apple Picking
‘Tis the season. It’s fun and you get to enjoy the bundle!
Photo Shoot
Fall is a great time for the annual family photo. You can’t get a more beautiful backdrop than a canvas of colorful trees. If you’re a photographer, spend the day or take a weekend trip to score some beautiful shots.
Crafting
When I was young, I remember going on walks with my Mom to find giant pretty leaves to trace and make different crafts. This is something the kids might love. Paint pine cones, create a centerpiece from nature’s market, paint the scenery around you. Fall is a great time to be inspired.
Craft Shows
Fall craft shows are so much fun to visit. Mingle with all those creative people and you’ll discover some great finds. You can get inspired and even support local makers while you’re there!
Corn Mazes
Don’t get lost! Look out for night specials where you navigate with glow in the dark necklaces (or your phone’s flashlight). Those are fun!
Farmer’s Market/
Pumpkin Patch/
Cider Mill
I’m pretty sure these have become an unofficial mandatory fall activity. I’m listing all three here because depending on your area, they might be totally different establishments or they might have everything in the same place. Check out your local cider mill or road trip to a new location. Snatch up cider donuts while you can; I may have bought them all!
You might be in luck; there could be animals for the kids to feed too.
Hayrides
You can usually hail down a hayride when you’re visiting the cider mill, pumpkin patch, or farmer’s market.
Take the Trails
Know of a beautiful trail? Pack up your bike or just your walking shoes and spend the day outside.
Haunted Houses
These aren’t for me, but maybe you just love it!
Color Tour
You might remember I talked about this in my September and October Budget Checklists. Schedule a weekend getaway and soak the beauty in before they’ve closed the curtain.
Carve Pumpkins
Host a “Pumpkin Carving Contest” with friends and make it a party.
Bonfires
One of my favorite Fall activities. I love sitting in a warm blanket on a cold night around the fire with family. Snacks always welcomed, even encouraged, and afterwards, head inside for a movie.
Fall Picnic
If it’s not too chilly, pack up the family and a basket of fresh fruit and veggies and homemade sandwiches and head to the park for a picnic.
You don’t have to spend a ton of money to enjoy the Fall season. There’s nothing like soaking in the beauty of the morphing season and being with your loved ones. Have fun!
