The Pain of Patience: Verses to Comfort During Hard Times of Waiting

Patience and contentment while wading in a season of waiting are two of the most difficult and unbearable things to endure. I don’t care who you are, waiting in any form is hard because of our basic humanness and the charmer that is instant gratification.

Some days I feel like clawing out of my skin when I’ve exhausted my patience meter, but turns out I’m not actually in control. What?! As a Christian, I believe God is and while I’m struggling to get through moments of intolerable waiting and contentment is in its most dilute form, I know that God knows what’s happening at the end of this phase, and He’s got it all worked out. He listens to us and walks with us through it all, even days when it feels as if your future looks like a thick dense fog and it’s taking way too long for the next step.

Wait Patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

                                                -Psalm 27:14

I’m farthest from mastering contentment in times of waiting and trouble so I wanted to share with you a few verses that I have found are comforting during such moments.

Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for Him to act.

The Lord hears His people when they call to Him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

For He has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned His back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.

I cried out to the Lord, and He answered me from His holy mountain.

He does not ignore the cries of those who suffer.

We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.

These are just a few of many verses that have spoken to my restless, impatient heart. I hope they give you a sense of comfort during your own moments of waiting and hardship. What are some verses that you find are comforting, either listed or unlisted? Let me know in the comments!

Cheers!!
